Caroline Golf Club in Madison, Mississippi
(north of the Capitol City of Jackson) is the 18-hole semi-private course located at the
3,500 acre Lake Caroline development--an upscale residential development centered around a
850 acre lake that bears its name. In fact, the lake itself is the largest private
man-made lake in the state of Mississippi and the scene for a number of nationally
televised fishing programs. While working as the Senior Design Associate for Maxwell
Golf Group, Mr. Crace was a member of the project team for the planning and design of the
golf course and its related facilities. The course has hosted a number of mini Tour
events since opening in 1996 and has grown to be known for its aesthetics and
"playability"--with expanded chipping areas on nearly each green complex and a
number of holes designed in an open "links-like" setting.
The closing
three holes on the front nine wrap around the banks of Lake Caroline and from the highest
point on the course (the championship tee on hole #15), golfers can see the majority of
the lake itself--nearly one-half mile away! Although the course is a favorite
of golfers of all skill levels, it is still challenging enough for the best players.
In fact, the 17th hole is the longest par 3 in the state from the championship tees
(measuring some 240 yards with a carry over water from the tee to the
bulk-headed green
perched on a peninsula! Pot bunkers, extensive mounding and native grasses
throughout add to the experience of Caroline Golf Club--a course destined to grow in
popularity with the recent construction of a new Nissan plant only ten miles away in
Canton, Mississippi.
UPDATE:
Sadly, like a number of courses across America, Caroline Golf Club
closed its doors on February 28, 2007. The cost of operations
became too great in a weakening economy.
